Monte Mayor Golf Club

This impressive project is nestled in a lush, natural paradise in the Andalusian hills only 7 kms from the coast, getting there is an adventure in itself, but your patience will be well rewarded. Nicknamed ‘The King of the Golf Coast', the Monte Mayor golf course became an instant legend from the moment it opened in 1989. Spectacularly located and captivatingly beautiful, it inspires the utmost respect and admiration in golfers from around the world, many of whom are drawn back, time and again, in a determined effort to conquer this amazing course. Few succeed, but playing Monte Mayor is an experience no one will ever forget. It is widely acknowledged as one of Europe’s premier golfing experiences and possibly the Costa del Sol's most spectacular course.

Created by the renowned course designer José Gancedo, this 18 holes 5652 metres par 71 golf course is probably unlike any you have ever played before. Nestled in a natural amphitheatre created by the Serrania de Ronda Mountains, the greens have not been shaped by bulldozers, but by the wild Andalusian nature. Visitors either love or hate this baroque masterpiece of great intelligence laid out through rocks, gorges and amidst wild vegetation, it meanders through a mountain valley, with ravines and gullies, winding streams and has raised tees, blind tee shots, steep ravines and terraced and plateaued fairways. It is a challenging layout for the bold and accurate; a monster course and one that is impossible to overlook. Bring extra golf balls and expect to leave the 18th green exhausted but delighted with the magnificent landscapes.

The new driving range is now open to the public, it is set in a valley created for this purpose, a pleasant 3 minute buggy drive away from the current club house. It features 10 covered practice bays, grass practice areas, multiple practice targets and Srixon range balls.

Parador Malaga de Golf

This course is in a privileged location, in the heart of the Costa del Sol on the seashore, just 10 minutes from the city of Malaga and Malaga Airport. This is the Costa’s oldest course; its beginnings date back to the last century, in the early 1920's, and are tied to the Royal Family in Britain. Over the years, this course has been transformed into one that is both demanding for veterans and accessible for novices and now measures 6204 metres in length as a further 9 more holes have recently been added, bringing the total to 27.

Created by Scottish architect Tom Simpson, famous for his golfing layouts at Tumberry and Muirfield, the course has an interesting mixture of part links with seawater lagoons, and part parkland with the fairways forming avenues between the trees which are home to flocks of colourful parakeets. This par 72 course is fairly long but is easy to walk being rather flat, it requires strength and strategy to navigate the stands of well established trees and natural lagoons. The 12th hole in particular is a good example of trees being a lurking danger, a perfect drive is required in order to reach the green in two and avoid the eucalyptus grove on the right. With long par 3’s and 4’s and reasonable par 5’s, some holes present a real challenge - especially when the wind blows.

This course has been the host of many important professional tournaments namely the PGA European Circuit, the Turespaña Masters and the Iberia Cup. Miguel Ángel Jiménez, a native of Malaga, holds the course record with 62 strokes, obtained during the 1999 PGA Turespaña Masters, which he went on to win.

Other facilities include a 9-hole links, 9-hole pitch & putt, golf school with renowned professionals and with the help of a video, area reserved for professionals and their groups and a football field for European teams, where they can train during the winter months.

Golf Rio Real

Vacation Care Recommended Course
This well-established (1965) 18-hole par72 course was designed by the reputable Javier Aranan and is situated in splendid surroundings in a beautiful valley that has a variety of palms and pine trees that line the fairways and provide character and shade. There is a natural water hazard in the form of the river 'Rio Real' which crosses the course several times before flowing into the sea.

It is not an easy course to conquer but is suitable for all abilities because of its relatively flat and gently undulating layout. There are some holes to look out for which require a particularly accurate tee shot.

Recently this course has benefited from several major improvements, namely replanted fairways, enlargement of cart paths and refurbishment of the clubhouse and its facilities. The clubhouse is now one of the most spectacular in the area with its large terrace overlooking the course.

The San Roque Club

Between Jerez and Marbella, almost at the tip of the Iberian Peninsula, the peace and natural beauty of Andalucia is complemented by 2 18-hole championship golf courses, The Old Course and the New Course. San Roque Club, together with its close neighbours Valderrama and Sotogrande, forms part of the famous "Golden Triangle" of Spanish Golf.

The original Old Course is a legendary home for European golf. This 6494 metres par 72 course was created in 1990 and designed by Dave Thomas with bunkers redesigned by Seve Ballesteros. The course's tight, sloping fairways are lined with mature cork oak forests and demand straight, accurate driving. Strategic bunker placement and deceptive water hazards threaten all but the most precise approach shots. The greens are fast, contoured and true, rewarding well-judged putts and punishing anything else. Acknowledged for it's challenge throughout Europe, The Old Course provides a demanding test for the very highest standard of golfer and is a course every golfer will remember.

The New Course was opened in 2003, it is a world-class course measuring 6626 metres in length from the championship tees. The designs, by the renowned American course designer Perry Dye, incorporate the contours of the San Roque hills, giving golfers wonderful views to the Guadalquiton River and the Mediterranean Sea beyond. This course aims to complement The Old Course, while presenting a very different challenge, the idea was to create a new course that is a challenge for scratch and low handicap golfers but that is also possible for higher handicap players to enjoy. To that end each hole has five different tee positions and fairways that are wider than those on The Old Course.

Other facilities include a two-tiered covered range (28 bays), practice areas and putting greens (1 x 18 holes/2 x 9 holes), chipping green, pitching area, three practice bunkers, restaurant, clubhouse, pro shop and the new Golf Academy.

Santa Clara Golf

Vacation Care Golf Recommended Course
Inaugurated in July 2001 and located in one of the most exclusive areas of Marbella just off the main coastal highway east of Marbella, Santa Clara Golf Club is an 18 hole, par 71 course of 5878 metres from the professional tees. Designed by Enrique Canales Busquets in ‘Park-land’ style, this course has been created with respect for the natural environment of indigenous wildlife and vegetation, and blends dramatically into the rugged local terrain. It is a course that provides an unforgettable experience and a challenge that every player will want to repeat again and again. Santa Clara hosted the 58th Annual Spanish Professional Championship in June 2003, quite an honour for a new course and indicative of the quality and prestige Santa Clara has been able to achieve in a short time.

This course presents a technically challenging but straightforward and pleasant round with wide fairways, few roughs, long tees with many starting positions and spectacular open and elevated greens without pronounced slope. In addition to the huge river that swirls across the whole golf course there are plenty of lakes (the small lake around the 18th green provides a stunning setting). Although Santa Clara Golf is located in an undulated area, it is relatively forgiving and is mainly flat, apart from the long 8th which starts at the highest point of the course and then curves all the way down to sea level. The course is highlighted by the “Santa Clara Corner” formed by the 12th, 13th and 14th holes, a perfect combination of pars 4, 3 and 5, which requires the golfer to make long and accurate shots.

The golf school has a very large tee with more than 15 practice positions, putting green, practice bunker, a short play area and nine pitch & putt holes. There is also a Clubhouse with restaurant and bar, pro shop, changing rooms and showers.
